The Many Benefits of Martial Arts

Jan 05, 2024

Martial arts schools remain a crucial extracurricular activity for people all around the world. In a world where you're surrounded by new activities monthly, they consistently stand out from the rest. They offer several benefits for children and adults, alike.

Discipline

In our experience, one of the first things that you will learn in martial arts schools is not to fight. Students learn that they should try to peacefully resolve issues before fighting anyone. Remaining calm in the face of conflict takes an extreme amount of discipline. Students continue to learn discipline through consistent practice with our team.

Health

According to Bookee, 77% of teenagers say participation in martial arts helps keep them healthy. This activity promotes the overall health of the mind, body, and soul. It helps get everyone up and moving instead of sitting in front of a screen. You are encouraged to eat healthy, practice patience, and focus on your moves.

Fitness

Many people notice a new level of physical fitness that goes hand in hand with martial arts. Punches, kicks, and other moves help children and adults engage various muscle groups to promote flexibility and physical fitness. These same moves encourage coordination and agility, giving you the skills and foundation to develop a lifelong love of being fit. We work hard to instill this value in our students.

Conflict Resolution

Students are taught conflict resolution skills early on in their lessons. These skills are taught repeatedly and are enforced as the years go on. Conflict resolution skills will encourage you to avoid fighting, even if you know how. These same skills will be helpful on the playground, in classrooms, and in the workplace.

Respect

Respect is deeply ingrained in the culture of martial arts. Students are encouraged to respect the teacher, other students, and the building where they practice. You will be taught to respect the sport. We've found that as students continue to develop respect, it is often seen outside of their classes, including at school, work, and home.

Self-Esteem

This activity is a beautiful way for anyone to build self-esteem. Students learn new moves and slowly work through the ranks to earn one belt after another. Earning new belts and winning competitions gives them a sense of pride in what they are doing. Feeling proud of oneself is a great way to increase self-esteem.

Martial arts classes offer multiple benefits to people of all ages. Teachers encourage respect, work with students to teach conflict-resolution skills, and more. Contact National Karate of Rochester today to learn more about our classes.
